Alcohol’s Role in Sexual Assault Perpetration: Theoretical Model and Research Findings

Antonia Abbey is a Professor of Psychology at Wayne State University.  She received her PhD in social psychology from Northwestern University.  She has a longstanding interest in women's health and reducing violence against women.  Her research interests in the domain of sexual assault include understanding the causes of sexual assault; alcohol’s role in sexual assault; and sexual assault measurement issues.  She has published more than 100 journal articles and book chapters and has served on a variety of national advisory committees.  

This presentation describes Dr. Abbey's research that focuses on sexual assault etiology, with a focus on alcohol’s role in combination with other risk factors.  Survey and experimental studies are included.
