Andrea Almeida, MD

Dr. Andrea Almeida is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Michigan and a Co-Director of the Sports Neurology Program, Michigan NeuroSport. She is also on the Executive committee of the Michigan Concussion Center as well as a Co-Director of the Michigan Concussion Center’s Clinical Core.
Dr. Almeida earned her medical degree at St. George’s University, and after completing a Neurology residency at Tulane University, she came to the University of Michigan to serve as the first Sports Neurology fellow for the Department of Neurology. She specializes in Sports Neurology with an emphasis on treatment of acute concussion, as well as management of neurological disorders in athletes. Dr. Almeida treats athletes at all levels, from children to professional athletes. She also serves as a team physician and consultant for the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and USA Hockey.
Dr. Almeida’s research interests include early exercise intervention for concussed athletes, sport specific return to play algorithms, and acute treatment modalities. The long term goal of Dr. Almeida’s research is to determine optimal treatment for sports-related concussion.
