Biography

Dr. Stoddard is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education in the School of Public Health. She is also the Co-Director of the Training and Education Core at the U-M Injury Prevention Center, training and mentoring graduate students, medical students/residents, and postdoctoral fellows in the areas of injury prevention including youth violence, sexual violence, substance use, and adolescent health and development. Her career has focused on promoting the health and well-being of youth living in communities characterized by substantial health and social disparities, and includes professional experience as a local public health nurse focused on maternal-child health, a nurse practitioner in community- and school-based clinics, and the State Adolescent Health Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health. Dr. Stoddard in the peer violence and bullying section contributed to the U-M IPC Massive Open Online Course, “Injury Prevention for Children and Teens” in the Health Inequities section.

Research Interests

Dr. Stoddard's research interests include understanding the interaction between individual factors and social and environmental factors (e.g., poverty, relationships, neighborhood characteristics), and how together they shape the psychosocial development and health trajectories of at-risk urban youth; and the application of behavioral and ecological approaches to prevent risk behaviors in youth.
