Dr. Carter is the Principal Investigator and Director of the U-M Injury Prevention Center, Associate Professor and a board-certified emergency physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan, and Youth Violence Content Lead at the U-M Injury Prevention Center.
As Co-Director of the University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center, Dr. Carter is responsible for establishing and overseeing the short-term progress and long-term strategic mission of the Center. Dr. Carter’s research career goal is to develop and implement innovative emergency department-based interventions that will not only prevent firearm injuries but also decrease substance use and high-risk firearm behaviors among youth and young adults. Through the well as the potential injury-related impact and cost savings new technology can create. Dr. Carter contributed to the U-M IPC Massive Open Online Course, “Injury Prevention for Children and Teens” in the Firearm Safety section.
